“Fans will burn the midnight oil to finish and then gnash their teeth awaiting Breaking Dawn”, so says VOYA (Voice of Youth Advocates) on the back cover of Eclipse
. I did burn the midnight oil to read this book. In fact, I stayed up well past midnight so that I could read until my eyes couldn’t stay open any longer! That’s how interesting this book is – something I can’t say for New Moon
.
So Bella has made up her mind to become a vampire, as soon as possible if she can have things her way. She desperately wants to sleep with Edward too. Nevertheless, Edward wants to get married first before transforming Bella and doing anything with her. Bella thinks that getting married right after high school would initiate unwanted gossip among her high school friends and other people. She’s also worried about what her parents might think about her.
If you have read the previous two books, you’d know that a wild and vicious vampire called Victoria is after Bella. She wants to finish off Bella just like how Edward destroyed her mate, James. In short, Victoria is just looking for revenge. So during the whole book, Edward’s family and the werewolves are spending most of their time protecting Bella.
Besides that, Jacob, Bella’s best friend who can also turn into a werewolf, is determined to win Bella’s heart. He keeps hinting to her that she harbours feelings for him too although she adamantly denies it. Even though Bella insists that she only has eyes for Edward, Jacob won’t give up and is willing to fight for her until she becomes a vampire. Even Bella’s father, Charlie prefers Bella to spend time with Jacob and not Edward. You have to give credit to Edward who is way too polite and decent towards Charlie despite Charlie treating him like part of the wall.
What’s fascinating is that there are stories in this story. Rosalie ends up being quite nice to Bella and shares her story. Jasper who’s had a terrifying past also shares his own story to make Bella understand more about vampires and territories. During a bonfire party at Jacob’s place, the elders of the council told the history of how werewolves came to be in their tribe.
There wasn’t a dull moment in this book. I enjoyed reading the conversations between Edward and Jacob. I thought Edward quite selfish when he totally forbids Bella to visit Jacob fearing that she might get hurt since Jacob’s part werewolf. And did Bella have to take so long a time to finally realize the way she feels for Jacob? I’m also appalled at the way Bella treats Jacob. She was rude to him, kept scolding him and basically insults him whenever she can. I’m surprised he took it all so well and continued being easy going.
The ending was absolutely heart-wrenching though. I have to get Breaking Dawn and see how things continue for the humans, the vampires and the werewolves.

nice review. i thought that Rosalie’s and Jasper’s stories were among the best parts of the book. i’d love for Stephenie Meyer to write more about them, and about Emmett and Alice.

alisonwonderland: I’d like Stephenie Meyer to write more on Alice too. Yeah, it’s a change to read more about the Cullen family for once. I find them really intriguing!

Love the review! The story is getting more exciting! I’m just loving it. I really want to start reading it now. Unfortunately, I’m still on New Moon.

Definitely get Breaking Dawn Josette! It’s a good one. I agree with Alison. Alice is an intriguing character and it’ll be great to read more of her. I love her in the movie.

What a great review! You know I didn’t like how Bella treated Jacob either especially since I really like him. I imagine you’ve read Breaking Dawn. I’ll have to poke around for your review and see what you thought of it.

Bea: Well, how are you finding New Moon? I didn’t really like it unfortunately. But do hurry and get to Eclipse! It’s so much better…more excitement in it!
Alice: I cannot wait to get Breaking Dawn too…but I promised myself to read some TBR books at home first before going out to buy it. And do you also like Alice because both of you share the same name?
She’s one of my favourite characters!
Darlene: Nice to meet another Jacob fan! Oh no, I’m afraid I haven’t read BD yet.
Soon, I promise you!

Always good to meet another Twilight fan. I’m still voting for the first book as the best after reading all four. I think Meyer is writing a book from Edward’s perspective which should be interesting.

Hope you enjoy Breaking Dawn! I think it was my third favorite with New Moon being my least favorite.

Framed:
I can’t decide which book is the best for me yet but I think my least favourite would be New Moon. Yes, the new book would be called Midnight Sun! Can’t wait for that too.
Alea: Hi, I think I will!

After reading all 4 books now, all I can say is, “Bella drives me CRAZY.”

Kim: Haha! She is annoying, isn’t she? And also always the damsel in distress although she’s not that afraid of being near vampires.

I love these books, though I wish Bella would kick a little more butt. I mean, she seems a little wimpy to me.

Also…poor Jake!

Mikayla: Haha! Yes, yes, Bella is usually the damsel in distress as she does nothing but unknowingly creates trouble.
Oh yeah, poor Jake. Not everyone can have everything!

I love this book. I only wish that Bella had died, i mean she is so annoying first of all she wants everything she wants jacob, edward, to be a vampire and have sex with edward. Second of all I think the only reason she chosse edward over jacob is because edward is better looking than jacob he gots more money is hotter. she dosen’t deserve Edward

melina: You have interesting theories on why Bella chose to stick with Edward! But if she died, it’d be very bad for the story. After all, it is her story and since she’s the protagonist, she can’t very well die.
But you got it right when you said she’s annoying. However, she’s way too sullen in the movie. I’m sure she could try to put on a smile every now and then!

It’s a little funny how SO many people hate Bella, even though she’s the narrator of the story and we see everything in her perspective…
Not that I don’t agree with those who do hate her…

Mikayla: We all love to hate characters, don’t we? That’s another fun part of reading!
April 27th, 2009 at 8:56 am
OMG!!! HOW COULD YOU PEOPLE BE SO CRUEL TO EDWARD!!! jk…She picked Edward cause she likes him better. SHe even said in the books that she even wishes that he were slower and less-goodlooking so it would even out the gap. She doesn’t want jacob . I personally would pick edward. And anyway, she doesnt want everything, all she wants is to be with edward forever, and that is why she wants 2 be a vampire, eternal life, DUH! WOW… it seems like you people havent read the books. TEAM EDWARD!!! -sara-

Sara:
I have read the book and I do know that Bella would rather die than be away from Edward!

Yes, this was probaby the best in the series. And Breaking Dawn was the biggest let-down.
October 13th, 2009 at 12:22 am
@Nishita: Really?? I haven’t read Breaking Dawn yet so I can’t say which one is the best in the series.
